Brandnew fresh previews of brandnew Witty Art Singles!

Apart from working on several older and new(er) Witty Art Series, such as ''One Step Forward (How Many Steps Back?'' and the most recent additions to ''EarthRocks & MoonSwings'', I've been also busy creating new Witty Art Singles: artwork that are no part of a specific themed series or featuring a fixed main ''lead character'' in it. Which does not mean they are not somehow bound by underlying themes and threads, they most certainly are - but in a far more 'loose' way than is the case with my series.

So, I actually have a huge volume of work not published here on this blog before, though I showcased some previews on my Instagram feed. I now feel it's about time to share some out here, as well. Well, some previews, that is.

What I am most pleased with, is the development of my artwork. Yes, it's still definitely signature ''Witty Art'', so still definitely me all over, but I can also see a certain artistic growth over time. I hasten to add, for me ''growth'' does not necessarily mean ''growing up'' or ''maturing''. To me, ''growth'' here means the deepening of my work, as more and more layers get exposed, more and more layers seem to be added as well. As in: often I still don't know what awaits me when I start drawing and the final outcome often still surprises me.

So, I honestly hope, that by keeping on drawing, I will keep on surprising myself and therefore, I hope I keep on surprising you, the viewers, too.

The adventure that is art, and in this case, Witty Art, my art, coninues. And I could not wish for more than for you all to join me on this beautiful adventure!

NOT inspired by Alice in Wonderland: ''Up And Down The Rabbit Hole'' (a preview)

Just wanted to share a couple of previews of a new series with all friends and followers of Witty Art out there. A series of A5-sized black and white pencil drawings, some with an added touch of conté crayon or charcoal to them. Again, featuring a rabbit like creature. As this time I am not that certain of what the underlying themes are, as sometimes they are just as elusive to me as to those viewing my work, I've apptly named this series ''Up And Down The Rabbit Hole'', courtesy by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland ofcourse.

Not that ''Alice'' was a direct source of inspiration. As great as my appreciation is for having come up with legendary characters such as The White Rabbit and The Cheshire Cat, somehow, I have never been really fond of the story of Alice in Wonderland. Why exactly? I really don't know. There were other books and stories that captured my imagination as a child and somehow, Alice and all that she gets up to, never managed to do so, despite having the book several times as a child, a teenager and later, as an adult as well.
 
Mind you, I do value it highly as an important work of literature and storytelling in its own right.
But most ''popular'' children's books and fairy tales were more or less wasted on me, to be honest. Well, apart from some extraordinary exceptions to the rule, and I can reassure you those have enormously influenced my life as well as my artwork. More on that particular subject in a later blog (and a long overdue one).

For now, I will happily work further on this series, and will see where this one takes me - perhaps up and down a few undiscovered rabbit holes of my own, I suppose. In which case, I will happily let my very own colony of UnBunnies lead the way!

Major creative explosion of Witty Art shared via my Instagram account!

The last couple of weeks have been nothing less than one big creative explosion. Image after image came popping up in my mind, ideas and visions for new series, of new works, for whole new visual concepts of Witty Art. Well, I suppose that's what you get when you refer to your own art as ''dancing on a seemingly dead volcano'' .. it's about to pop it's load sometime, and that time is now! 

I have been sharing most of my newly created Witty Art on Instagram, which I have found to be a great medium for quick sharing and showcasing previews and snapshots of my art work, also establishing contact with likeminded fellow creatives and artists. And yes, new collaborations are being worked on - internationally! 

Work-In-Progress: series 'Where Angels Do Not Fear To Tread'

Recently, I decided to post more updates featuring sneak previews or snap shots, mostly taken with smartphone or tablet, from works-in-progress. Lately, I have been doing so especially on my Instagram profile and the respons over there has been so supportive, that I thought it'd be a good idea to feature more of those on this blog as well. I guess it also keeps friends and followers of Witty Art engaged in the whole ''making of'', just like the so-called live sessions do. Plan to organise more of those as well!

Anyway, this is a short post dedicated to another series 'in progress': 'Where Angels Do Not Fear To Tread'

The title is based on the famous line written by Alexander Pope in his poem An Essay on Criticism (1709). The line since then has been immortalised by, amongst others, Abraham Lincoln in his Peoria speech (1854), Johnny Mercer's classic song recorded by, to name a few, Frank Sinatra, Ricky Nelson and many others and provided tons of inspiration for numerous other works of art and creativity. The phrase ofcourse refers to the fact that fools, e.g. the unknowing, or the inexperienced will attempt things that wiser people are more cautious of. Whether that is always the case, and whether that is a good thing or not, is food for not only thought but for some heated debates, as I have found out during numerous occasions.

As always is the case with Witty Art, things are not what they appear to be. The question is, though, who are the fools, and who are the angels anyway, that is, IF they are there at all?

First glimpse of new series: 'Crawl On The Catwalk (Bigger Steps)'

As I started posting pictures of another new series called 'Crawl On The Catwalk' both on my Facebook page and my Instagram and Pinterest accounts, positive reactions were flooding in. So I decided to post some more snap shots of the nearly-finished drawings of this particular series, which features a hyperactive, if not slightly hysterical, fashion designer and his entourage rapidly spiralling out of control. From Haute Coutûre to Haute Bizarre, or more like Panic on the Runway or something like it. 

 

With this series, I actually had no idea what I would end up with, except I had this firm idea of the main character and his mantra ''Take Bigger Steps, You Must Take Bígger Steps!''. How the other characters evolve, the models, the seamstresses, the whole entourage of a well-established ''House of Fashion'', I had no idea. I've got to say, the result swings right between the surrealistic, dystopian world of the Singles and the more upbeat irony of my more cartoonesque art.

And yes, I like it that way, to be honest. But let's see what the final result will look like, as I hope to post the first five finished works online this week!
